If you are on a student visa and wish to work while studying in Australia, you need to apply for a “student visa with permission to work.” An application for permission to work can only be made once you are in Australia after you have commenced your studies. This will generally allow you to work up to 20 hours a week during semester, and an unrestricted number of hours during school holidays.

Students on tourist visas are ineligible to work.
